11/25/2023 0 Comments Ellie face the last of us part 2 vs 1Within the first few hours of the nearly 24-hour-long game, Joel dies in a brutal and bloody fashion. After the opening prologue, players are tossed into a now-adult Ellie's point of view. Ultimately, players only get to play Joel for a short time at the beginning of the game, at which point Joel confesses to his brother, Tommy, that he saved Ellie from the Fireflies who wanted to kill her for a potential cure. There's a limited portion of the game where players play the 14-year-old Ellie and a DLC that features her as the playable character.Ĭonsidering Joel's beloved in the fandom, fans expected to play Joel again in "Part II," not the plot that the creator, Naughty Dog, went with. In "The Last of Us," players played Joel, a middle-aged man who gets stuck escorting Ellie across the country but eventually comes to see her as a daughter (he's portrayed by the incredible Pedro Pascal in the TV series). All that said, the game was still controversial upon release, primarily because of its plot. Praised for its progressive nature with multiple women leads and a lesbian protagonist, Ellie, it offered a lot of diversity that the gaming industry still tends to shy away from. It won Game of the Year in 2020 like its predecessor did in 2013. Even if Part 3 never sees the light of day, players will have a chance to relive the events that started Ellie on her emotional journey when The Last of Us Part I launches on September 9."The Last of Us: Part II" was a massive success when it came out. For now, it’s unknown if the game will materialize or if it's even still about Ellie at all. Series creator Neil Druckmann recently confirmed he and co-writer Halley Gross created a draft for The Last of Us Part 3. Through the love and support of Dina and her friends, Ellie could finally find new meaning and unburden herself from the trauma that the gruesome events at the hospital have left on her shoulders. ![]() Last of Us Part 3 could help Ellie to turn around and realize that her immunity is simply a gift, not a cause for her to throw her life away. She would have something significant to offer to a broken world, and she would be remembered for it. ![]() All of her emotional and physical trauma would finally be justified. To her, self-sacrifice is an easy way out. ![]() As she recounts to Joel in their final conversation together, by eliminating the chance for her to provide a vaccine, Ellie feels that he deprived her life of purpose.Īlternatively, Part 3 could pull away from the immunity concept and help Ellie overcome her dilemma. Throughout the story of TLOU Part 1, she embarks on a long and treacherous journey with Joel to achieve this end. Beginning with the turning of her best friend and crush Riley, Ellie’s survivor guilt has instilled a need to prove that her immunity was given to her for a reason. The Last of Us Part 2's core narrative follows the consequence of these actions, but it also leaves Ellie in a unique dilemma. The underpinning of the entire series has been Ellie’s immunity, a sign of hope in the first game, but rendered essentially irrelevant by Joel’s actions at the hospital. With a cast of well-crafted, relatable characters, the complicated decisions they face in their post-apocalyptic world feel unique and personal. Joel and Ellie form The Last of Us' heart, but the complex moral dilemmas at its core have established it as a timeless classic.
